The Story
Pullela Gopichand rose to international prominence after winning the prestigious All England Open Badminton Championships in 2001, one of the highest honours in the sport. After retiring from competitive badminton, he dedicated himself to coaching and founded the Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad. Under his leadership, the academy has produced Olympic medalists, World Championship winners, and multiple Commonwealth and Asian Games champions. He has served as the Chief National Coach of the Indian badminton team and has been instrumental in India’s rise as a global badminton powerhouse. Gopichand has received several national honours for his contribution to sports, including major civilian and sports awards. His legacy lies in building a sustainable ecosystem for badminton excellence in India.
